The City of Miami, Mayor’s Office of
Faith-based and Community Initiatives has
been awarded a three year Compassion Capital
Fund (CCF) Demonstration Program Grant by
the U.S. Department of Health & Human
Services. The Compassion Capital Fund,
created in 2002, is a key component of
President Bush’s faith-based and community
initiative. Recipients of CCF grants provide
training, technical assistance, and
sub-awards to a diverse range of faith-based
and community organizations seeking to
increase their ability to provide social
services to those in need. Technical
assistance activities are offered free of
charge and focus on strategic planning,
financial management, board development,
fundraising, and outcome measurement.
The
City of Miami is the first municipality to
receive a CCF grant.
This grant, which is administered by the
Mayor’s Office of Faith-based and Community
Initiatives, represents a unique
collaboration among the City of Miami,
Center on Nonprofit Effectiveness (C-One)
Powered by Hands on Miami, Miami-Dade
County, The Children’s Trust, Alliance for
Human Services, Family and Children’s Faith
Coalition of South Dade, and United Way of
Miami-Dade. The City and its partners will
operate this grant under the name of Miami
NICE: Network for Integration, Compassion
and Empowerment.
The
Miami NICE partnership will offer various
training and technical assistance
workshops/seminars throughout the county.
Competitive sub-awards, ranging from $5,000
to $20,000, will be available to eligible
organizations that provide services in one
or more CCF priority areas: children and
youth; ex-offender re-entry; elders in need;
homelessness; rehabilitation services to
addicts and/or prisoners; families
transitioning from welfare to work; and
healthy marriage initiatives. Sub-awards
will fund capacity building activities that
produce measurable impact resulting in more
sustainable organizations.
“Miami-Dade County has some of the most
innovative and effective faith and
community-based groups in the country and I
am honored to be able to provide an
opportunity for them to receive free
training and technical assistance and to
select a few, sub-awards, to sustain and
build their organizations so that they may
continue their invaluable work.”
- Mayor Diaz
